Social Media is Powerful!

We feel a strong sense of responsibility with how we use Social Media, it truly can be very influential and highly impactful! Our community of Wind River adventurers have certainly realized how posts on Social Media have contributed towards some very crowded areas and routes that have, unfortunately, left some scarring from overuse. We cannot underscore the importance of responsible social media use enough! Thanks so much your help with posting responsibly!

Tag Your Face, Not The Place!

  • Geotagging photos in social media creates a surge in human traffic, straining habitats unable to absorb crowds making it pretty challenging to experience any type of solitude in the backcountry.

  • We know its tempting when you have discovered a cool route or cool summit to post the location details. However, we really think its best to let others discover such locations as you did!

  • But what if someone asks where you are? You can be vague: “In the mountain west!” Or, “In the Rocky Mountains!” Or, “Wyoming!” Or simply, “In an effort to protect these places from overuse, I don’t disclose specific locations on social media.”

Next Up: Bear Country

Drones.

DRONES are NOT permitted in wilderness areas. They fall under the same regulation that prohibits motorized and mechanized equipment (such as motorcycles, motorboats, mountain bikes, and chainsaws).

Because: “Primitive tools and means of travel are basic to the Wilderness experience.”  Designated Wilderness offers the highest level of protection from the confines of modern life.  They were designated to literally NOT progress into the modern world.  Please keep your drones at home.
